Smoothie talking: what's your best smoothie recipe?

Smoothies are a cinch to whip up (though not always wash up).

Smoothies make a great post-workout recharge, a breakfast on-the-go, or a sneaky yet delightful way to incorporate more vegies into your diet.

All you need is a blender and a few basic ingredients to create your own nutrient-rich elixir.

Smoothies are the liquid embodiment of creativity, where personal preferences and what's on hand mean there are recipes and tips just waiting to be shared.

  1. Choose your preferred liquid. Some use ice cubes, some choose milk (including non-dairy milks like almond, oat or coconut) but you can also try yoghurt, kefir or fruit juice.
  2. Add something frozen. Frozen fruits add the best flavour punch - try throwing your browning bananas in the freezer to use as a base or use store bought frozen bags of berries or mango. Ice cream or a sorbet also work a treat.
  3. Throw in a dose of greens, protein or a superfood supplement. Fresh leafy greens such as spinach or kale are an easy way to sneak in a daily serve of vegetables. You can buy cheap greens powder or cacao powder from Aldi. If you want to add protein powder, vanilla flavours seem to taste the best. Chia seeds, hemp seeds or even tasty nut butters like almond or cashew can also beef up the protein content.
