Talkback: celebrating older women on magazine covers

Magazines - especially fashion icon Vogue - have been embracing age diversity, making powerful statements by featuring beautiful older women on its covers.

Paulina Porizkova posed without any retouching for Scandinavian Vogue at 57 on the left. The former model shares the realities of ageing in an industry where youth is often valued above all else on her Instagram account.
Isabella Rossellini posed for Italian Vogue this year on the condition that her photos made her wrinkles obvious. Isabella was dropped as a Lancome model in her 40s and is now aged in her 70s
Sex in the City's Kim Cattrall made the cover of Greek Vogue at the age of 67 this year. "Speaking for me, a woman in her sixties that is, I think the biggest challenge is to continue to be relevant, to work, to be able to convey a message, to be relevant," she says.
Domestic goddess - and jailbird - Martha Stewart made the cover of Sports Illustrated aged in her 70s.
Helen Mirren has long been in the public eye and has hit the cover of Vogue more as an older woman than as a young woman.
It's great that non-celebrities are also making magazine covers, including the 106-year-old Filipino tattoo artist on the left and Joan MacDonald on the right.
